DNS Mentoring Program
Dear Members:
As we are gearing up to launch the highly anticipated DNS Mentoring Program, I would like to share some food for thought (healthy, of course).
The purpose of this program is aimed to pair up mentors and mentees with shared professional interests. Our mentors are experienced clinicians, who are well known in the realm of nutrition support, looking to help newer clinicians in realizing all their career possibilities. I've had the pleasure of hearing from many prospective mentees with a wide variety of needs and expectations. To these interested parties - please take the time to think about a couple of specific goals and objectives you would like to accomplish during your mentoring relationship, as this will help benefit and nurture this great experience.
Each mentoring relationship will entail a signed contract between the mentor and the mentee for a minimum of six months. It will be the responsibility of both participants to agree on specific goals, and decide on specific activities that will facilitate the mentee in achieving these goals. Mentees must remember that in order to take full advantage of the experience, it is truly in the hands of the mentee to follow through on all activities both alone and with the mentor. The mentor will often provide guidance at the level he/she senses as the mentee's interest level. Thus, communication will be key between the contracted mentor and mentee, and I believe with the technological advances today, this program will be successful in connecting members nationwide with exceptional outcomes!
Please continue to contact me via the DNS website if you are interested in becoming either a mentor or a mentee. The list is building and you will be the first to know once the program is up-and-running. I look forward to facilitating a great mentoring experience for all of you in the near future!
Sincerely,
Yimin Chen, MS, RD, CNSD

It's an honor to serve on the Mentorship Committee and to be a mentor. I am very excited about this new program. I believe this program will not only provide support to the new nutrition support practitioners but also provide leadership opportunities for seasoned practitioners. Furthermore, I believe it will help all of us to continue to learn and hone our clinical skills.
I look forward to working with all of you to enhance our role in patient care.
Hello
I think this program sounds great! I would love to help. Also, I am right in the neighborhood if you needed any assistance getting this going. I'm at Bethany Hospital, LTAC on the west side of the city. I am new to the city and looking for new ways to get involved.
I would be interested in any aspect of mentoring, specifically PN and lyte/fluid management. I also have a lot of experience working with complex enterocutaneous fistulas.
thanks!
