What do YOU have to say about Nutrition Literacy and Leadership/Management issues?

By Susan Brantley - Posted on 14 May 2010

The Spring 2010 HOD virtual meeting was conducted on May 1-2, 2010. The two dialogues pertained to:

  • Optimizing health and nutrition literacy
  • Understanding management and leadership skills as essential components in all areas of practice.

Two motions have been prepared by the House Leadership Team for consideration.

Electronic Motion #1:  Health & Nutrition Literacy

  • ADA headquarters staff will develop an action plan to improve health and nutrition literacy for American
  • The action plan will include a plan to inform members about opportunities for implementation and an evaluation tool for members
  • The action plan will be presented by spring 2011

Electronic Motion #2: Management and Leadership

  • Top priorities for individuals will include: build communication skills, embody a leadership mindset early in the career, and encourage mentoring
  • Top priority actions for ADA is the development of a management or leadership credential or certification program

As members of ADA, please consider and comment on the following:

Health & Nutrition Literacy:
  • Do YOU think ADA and RDs/DTRs should accept the challenge to lead the nation-wide endeavor to educate Americans on health and nutrition literacy?
  • Would you be willing to incorporate the tools and resources developed into your practice?

Management and Leadership:
  • Would you take advantage of programs or audio/video formats to learn more about management and leadership skills?
  • Is this a deficiency in current RD training?
  • Would you participate in a leadership credential or certification program is available?
