Dear DNS members,

It is my pleasure to serve as your Transplant Network Chair during the upcoming year. The goal is to provide you with fresh and informative content covering transplant surgery and nutrition. This may include reviewing scientific articles, introducing new books in print, discussing interesting case studies, and learning about opportunities to advance our knowledge through transplant conferences and seminars. I encourage all, and especially those working closely with this population to contact me with suggestions for website content.

Healthy regards,

Tamara

"New Onset Diabetes After Transplantation (NODAT)" replaces the old term "Posttransplant Diabetes"

Kaposztas Z, Gyurus E, Kahan B.D. New-Onset Diabetes After Renal Transplantation: Diagnosis, Incidence, Risk Factors, Impact on Outcomes, and Novel Implications. Transplantation Proceedings 2011;43:1375-1394.

NODAT is a multifactorial disorder that resembles type II diabetes and can negatively affect the long-term graft function and patient survival. NODAT also increases the risks of cardiovascular disease and infectious complications.

The prevalence of NODAT has been underestimated in the literature due to the lack of a standard definition for this disorder and therefore incidences vary from 2% to 50%.
