DNS 2021 Symposium: Applying Nutrition Support Knowledge to Practice.

Dietitians in Nutrition Support is pleased to announce its 2021 symposium where attendees will gain knowledge in current evidence-based nutrition support practices.  Plenary, interactive breakout and skills sessions will be offered to provide up-to-date knowledge, assessment and intervention strategies that attendees can apply in their practice settings.

Objectives:

  • Summarize the benefits of fiber and probiotics in critically ill patients.
  • Describe patients at risk for refeeding syndrome and apply strategies to minimize its impact.
  • Summarize key physical signs in patients demonstrating micronutrient deficiencies.
  • Recognize radiological evidence of successful feeding tube placement.
  • Describe the GLIM malnutrition diagnostic approach an
  • Illustrate differences in available intravenous lipid emulsions for use in the acute care and home care settings.
  • Apply ethics principles in managing enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
  • Attain skills in managing electrolytes in patients requiring nutrition support.
  • Summarize indications for parenteral and enteral nutrition support in selected patient populations.
  • Describe measures of assessing functional status and frailty.
  • Describe various enteral access devices including their similarities and differences.
